Livestation is a platform for distributing live television and radio broadcasts over a peer-to-peer data network.[3] It is being developed by Skinkers Ltd. based on peer-to-peer technology acquired from Microsoft Research.[4]

link and another link

I got this last night and i'm impressed so far. Apparently there are other free things like this too but i'd never heard of it til last night. What i'm concerned with though is my fair usage policy with Tiscali. Is watching this technically like downloading things?

well its a live station so as long as you have a tv liscence i dont see the problem... but then thats me n i know nothin haha

I read about that but i dont want Tiscali telling me i've used too much bandwidth or something. Cos theres no mention of that anywhere on that site. Maybe that means there'll be no problem with that

Nevermind, found it in the userguide

Using Livestation may transfer more than 200MB per hour while viewing video. This could quickly exceed the limits on usage set by some broadband service providers. You should ensure that your network provider or administrator is able to support this level of sustained usage. This applies to all types of video streaming and not only to Livestation.

But regardless, i think its great and people should give it a go

What you say is perfectly correct - in the UK, you would technically need a TV licence. Although how they would know that you were watching without a licence is another matter entirely...

What about the rest?

I dont know exactly, but downloads etc? Is it like live streaming where it would add to how much you're downloading and uploading?

I think I see what you mean - yes, I think it all adds up if you've got restrictions on how much you can download. I think livestation would seriously add to that. I used to have unlimited broadband width with Tiscali, though.

EDIT: The fair usage policy appears to relate only to peak time, peer-to-peer usage.

Ah yes forgot about that. Tiscali sent me letters twice saying i was downloading too much and told me to do it off peak instead.

But hang on, livestation is peer to peer huh.gif

can you get virus`s ........ or trogans...... through downloading this medium ?

I think maybe post number 2 on here might answer that. Sounds like the peer to peer thing on livestation is different to the peer to peer thing on something like limewire
