Well it's december now, and christmas is creeping upon us.

As per tradition with many people, december 1st usually means the start of an advent calendar.

I've decided to give you an advent calendar this year, but instead of chocolate, I will spread christmas joy via the medium of christmas songs biggrin.gif

To start things off we have Mad World performed by Gary Jules, which was christmas number 1 in 2003.
This was rank outsider to become number one, with songs from The Darkness, The Ozbournes, Bo Selecta and the contestants from that years pop idol all releasing songs, and they were all more well known.

Here it is, Mad World performed by Gary Jules

Frere
It is now december 2nd, which means another song angel2.gif

This time its a christmas classic, but not sung by the usual people, such as Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin, but by one of the modern day jazz favourites (purely because he's one of my favourites) Jamie Cullum.

So here it is, Let It Snow performed by Jamie Cullum
Frere
3rd of december now and i haven't gotten bored or lazy about doing this yet which is a good sign ohmy.gif

Now today i'm treating you to an absolute classic rofl.gif

This song was number one for four weeks in december 1988 (which means it was the first crimbo number 1 in my life time happy.gif). It was the best selling song that year, shifting 750,00 copies.

It's the man himself (who i had as my avatar when i joined up to this forum rofl.gif)

Here it is, Sir Cliff Richard OBE with Mistletoe and wine
FBG
remember it well rofl.gif
JonoF
Same.
One of my house-mates came wandering in while i was listening to your link.

You should have seen me talk my way outta that one tongue.gif
Frere
You don't need to talk your self out of that.. its sir cliff. nuff said

Today for the christmas song, we have a song which embraces the good will aspect of christmas more than any song ever has or will.

Written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, this song made it to christmas number 1 in 1984. It was preformed by what at the time was the biggest collection of stars in the music business who collectively went by the name of 'Band Aid'.

So here it is, Do they know it's Christmas? preformed by Band Aid

Frere
Back once again to 1984, and this was the christmas number 2 behind band aid.

This song was by a british duo, Andrew Ridgeley and some other guy who rode along on his talent..

Its considered one of the best christmas songs not to of reached number 1 (in the UK).

Here it is, Last Christmas by Wham!
Frere
Todays song was made for the 1982 animated film of the children's book 'The Snowman'

Originally sung by choirboy Peter Auty, it was released as a single which was sung by Welsh chorister Aled Jones.

I don't know how any male, whatever their age can get their voice that high icon_eek.gif

Anyway here it is, Walking in the air
Scorpio
Snowman, i love that biggrin.gif
Frere
Today is slightly different to the rest, as although the song is christmas related, the video is not the music video, but is actual something much better biggrin.gif

I'm sure most of you have seen something like this before, but still, the effort that must go into it is amazing.

Anyway this song is preformed by Brenda Lee, and is a very famous christmas song that i'm sure you all know the words to.. although it was never christmas number 1, but has been done by several people..

So here it is, 'Rocking Around The Christmas Tree' preformed by Brenda Lee
Scorpio
Aww i love that song. I first heard it on Home Alone (which is my favourite christmas movie secret.gif )
Frere
I'd been wondering all day what song to put up today, but flicking through the music channel, I stumbled across this, and well, it picked itself.

This song was written by Victor Young and Edward Heyman, and the original hit singer was Doris Day.
Probably the most well known version would be by Nat King Cole.

But I'm not going to show you either of them. And with good reason.

So here is todays song 'When I Fall In Love' preformed by Rick Astley
rofl.gif

Frere
Today we have a classic English band, more famous for football songs than christmas songs..

Not much to say about this song.. except its a bit different to your normal christmas songs..

So here it is, 'Naughty Christmas' By Fat Les
Frere
Todays song was originally released in 1994, then re-released in 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Apparently.
The lyrics are actually quite sweet and loving, but because of who sings it i dont believe or like this song..

So here it is, 'All I want for Christmas is you' By Mariah Carey
Scorpio
thelounge_dance3.gif
Rach227
Finally we get THE christmas song biggrin.gif
Frere
Todays song was christmas number one in 1985, only because it was going to be released in 1984, but because of band aid it appears they decided to hold back..

And despite his name I'm fairly certain he doesn't suffer from Parkinsons

So here it is 'Merry Christmas Everyone' by Shakin' Stevens
Frere
Todays song features three of the most loved and biggest stars in the UK today.
One is a former pop star turned jungle queen and finally appearing on This Morning not drunk.
One is our favourite loose woman.
One is still in love with kylie.

So here it is, just for all of you, one of the new Iceland adverts featuring Kerry Katona, Coleen Nolan and Jason Donovan.
Enjoy, I know you'll love it

Ok.. Heres todays actual song..

This song was released in 2003, at the height of the accompanying television show popularity.
The video had a large collection of 'celebrities' the whole list being: (dont quote me, this is from wikipedia)

The 3AM Girls, Simon Amstell, Ade Adepitan, Richard Bacon, Chris Bisson, Melanie Blatt, Edith Bowman, Melanie Brown, Adam Buxton, Jimmy Carr, Joe Cornish, Terri Dwyer, Jenni Falconer, Kerry McFadden, Caroline Flack, Kirsty Gallacher, Bob Geldof, Jade Goody, David Gray, Holly Valance, Christine Hamilton, Harvey, Katy Hill, John Leslie, Chris Moyles, Dermot O'Leary, Denise Van Outen, Ozzy Rezat, Craig Phillips, Ben Shepherd, David Sneddon, Kate Thornton and Matthew Wright.

So here is todays actual song 'Proper Crimbo' By Avid Merrion/Bo Selecta
Scorpio
I hate both those songs aggressive.gif
Frere
Well I'm sorry, I did give you the snowman the other day realmad.gif
Frere
This 1971 song was more of a protest song about the Vietnam War, but because of the time of release and the lyrics it became a Christmas standard and has appeared on Christmas albums.
The song has been covered by many artists over time, but none as successful as the original.

So here it is, Happy Xmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon, Yoko Ono and the The Plastic Ono Band.
Frere
Today was a good day for me because I got a request for my musical advent calendar biggrin.gif

I'm not sure what to say about this, it just simply relates to christmas so well and most people I know love it, and as soon as they see it they know its christmas.

So here it is, for JonoF, The coca cola advert
Scorpio
awwwwwwww i like that too biggrin.gif
Frere
Todays song is often voted the best Christmas song of all time in various polls in the UK.
Although it never made christmas number 1 at the time of release here in britain, its one of the most liked and mostly played..
It features a nice duet and some bad teeth icon_eek.gif

So here it is, Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl
Scorpio
I dunno why people think its the best. I think its awful
Frere
Same here
Frere
Everyone has to sing along today, you have to know most if not all of the lyrics. And if you don't you can pick them up as you go along.

One thing I learnt today from looking this christmas carol up, is that the 12 days of christmas are 25th december til 6th january. I always imagined it was the 12 days leading up to christmas, not afterwards.

The total costs of all goods and services in the song, in 2007, comes to $78,100, according to the "Christmas Price Index".

I always associate this song with disney, because when i was young we had a CD which contained christmas songs sung by disney characters, and this was on it. But I couldn't find it sad.gif
I found the second best though.

So here it is, 'The twelve days of christmas' performed by John Denver and the Muppets

Todays song is a cover of a song done by Connie Francis, and is currently used in the Co-operative's christmas adverts.

It was requested by a Miss Scorpio Laie_94.gif

So here it is 'Warm this winter' performed by Gabriella Cilmi
Rach227
oooo i lyk that song smiles.gif
Frere
Todays song is probably one of the first songs i ever associated with christmas.
Christmas number 1 in 1993 (older than my brother mellow.gif) and it also become voted the most irritating Christmas #1 single by HMV.
Ever present on Noel's house party, this character was a joy to watch biggrin.gif
And check out a young jeremy clarkson at about 30 seconds in Chortle.gif

So here it is, todays song - 'Mr Blobby' by Mr Blobby
aboutblank1976
Jeremy Clarkson in the video driving mr blobby onto set - may he never be allowed to forget that one!
Frere
Under a week now until the big day, which means i'm in the final stretch of my musical advent calendar. santa2.gif

Todays song is one which first came into the public spotlight in 1934, but we don't want to listen to that do we?
This song has been covered by so many artists over the years, but it was easy to pick which version to have in my calendar.
The song itself is very christmassy, giving the impression of a childs joy on christmas eve, or at least the run up to christmas. (At least thats how i see the song)

So you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout and here's why! 'Santa Claus is coming to town' performed by the Jackson 5
Rach227
omg mr blobby! I loed him as a lil kid hehe ill be watchin that evryday now haha

omg mr blobby! I loved him as a lil kid hehe ill be watchin that evryday now haha

omg mr blobby! I loved him as a lil kid hehe ill be watchin that evryday now haha

5 days til christmas now biggrin.gif

Todays song is a classic party.gif

And I found a video that has the smurfs on it ohmy.gif which if you look on the first page is what i used for the advent calendar picture rofl.gif

So here it is 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year' by Andy Williams
Scorpio
Aww i like this song too biggrin.gif
Frere
4 days til christmas Laie_94.gif

Todays song is the second song in my countdown by a former beatle.
Released in 1979 is well recognised for its synthesizer backing in the track

So here it is, 'Wonderful Christmastime' by Paul McCartney
Frere
Todays song is by a legend that has already been featured. But he's so good you deserve more.

This song is from 1999, and was number 1 in the charts the two weeks before christmas, before being beaten by westlife dry.gif

This song features the lyrics to the Lord's Prayer to the tune of Auld Lang Syne.

So here it is, 'The Millennium Prayer' by the one, the only, Sir Cliff Richard
#monkey#
I hope you have saved the best two till last, not saying what they are but Christmas wouldn't be the same without them.
Frere
well i got one more to do today (23rd as it 12:13 mow) but i have saved two, one for crimbo eve and one for crimbo day, and i'm thinking its pretty obvious what they are. They are the ultimate crimbo songs
Scorpio
i think its all a personal preference as to which are the best. Personally my faves have been and gone, but i can imagine that the last two are the ones that are heard the most
Frere
Shup woman

Todays song was christmas number 1 in 1974, and its a very clean song.

This song was done in the style of Elvis Presley's slower songs, which may seem like a dirty tactic to sell records, but they cleaned up in the sales.

Enough of the dodgy puns, here it is, todays song 'Lonely this christmas' by Mud

#monkey#
Forgot about that one doh.gif One of the great Christmas songs. Still looking forward to the last two.
Scorpio
I hate that one

angel.gif
Rach227
Love that song! lol
Frere
Well its christmas eve and i hope you are all in bed getting ready for santa to creep in and drop off all your presents.

Todays song is one of the classics of christmas, whether you like it or not, its widely known as one of THE christmas songs.

Released in 1973 this song only released number 4 in the chart. Which is a shame, but it should of at least got to number 2..

So here is todays song, 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday' by Wizzard

Come back tomorrow for the Christmas day song biggrin.gif
