Only TMZ saying he is dead though. Sounds bad though - he's certainly had a cardiac arrest.

Wow. If this isn't come crewel joke or a mis-report, it's the end of an era.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting reports coming from the BBC news channel at the moment.

You won’t get a much bigger story than this over the weekend. I can just about remember when the news that Elvis had died. Back in 1977 you didn’t have the mass media and communication that you have today, news was practically drip fed to the various news agencies. Last night I couldn’t believe the speed at which this story was flashed around the world; it was out literally within ten minutes of his passing.
I think everyone has criticized his style of living over the last twenty years I know I have, and the media vilified him during the child sex allegations. However all that aside you cannot deny the genius when it came to his music, I still think today that Thriller has the best dance sequence performed on a pop video ever. There will be an outpouring of grief by his fans that will equal Diana I think.

RIP: MJ and that chick from Charlie’s Angels
BOO
Its like black friday over here!

A sad day for the Jackson family and the music world as a whole. I think everyone has owned or listened to a Michael Jackson album at some point in their life and whatever people's views on him as a person, nobody can deny that he truly was a talented individual who made some great music (and Earth Song).

His own social ineptitude and naivety around children may have tarnished his character forever in some quarters but his contribution to music should never be overlooked.

I found out last night, he was a musical legend (although a little strange himself) I doubt this story will fade and i mean forever, he's the new elvis presley no doubt about it R.I.P

David Carridine. Farrah Fawcett and now Michael Jackson.

My eyes leak over the loss of such talent.

Apparently Michael Jackson died picking his nose. Doctors said they couldn’t blame it on the sunshine or the moonlight. They blamed it on the boogie.

Madonna has paid her respects to the jackson family and wants to know how much they want for the kids.

Do you think he’ll wake up in the middle of the night doing Thriller?

We really shouldn’t joke about MJ, think of all the people he touched,
especially the children.

Just come home from work, and turned on the news, looks liek the media is in full blown Diana mode now.

To be honest, I'm sick of this already. He was a great song writer, singer & dancer, but he hadn't done anything of note for the last 20 years apart from his court cases. I don't think I'll be buying a Sunday newspaper, there have got to be more important things going on in the world besides this & Peter Andre/Katie Price.

ENOUGH ALREADY.

Never take life too seriously, and likewise with death.

Jackson a was sad case, i believe America let him down, his family let him down and his friends let him down, if he had any, Jackson badly needed psychiatric help, no one bothered to point him in the right direction, or even force him in the right direction. If he had been British and living in Britain, i do believe he would have been sectioned and he would still be alive to day.

As predicted it's turned into a circus of "inconclusive" autopsies. I turn on the TV and the music channels are "dedicated" to him, the radio has hours devoted to him, and the news is just a shambolic effigy at the moment. It's sad I agree but FFS let it go.

One question. When major celebrities die - why can't they just die normally? No mystery, no endless post-mortems, no doctors taken in for questioning, just for once can't a mega-star die and that's that?
JonoF
Did well in the charts today, with 5 singles in the top 40, and an album going straight in at no. 1 in the album chart. Came close to beating Elvis Presley's record for most singles in a top 40 chart in a week.

Shame he had to die to do it.

Because it helps record sales perhaps? The more of a mystery it is, the more news it creates, the more people hear the news, the more their records sell, each news report is in effect an advert for his music.

Bored. Stop stealing precious nights of otherwise low quality tv.

It only affected me when i couldn't get on Sickipedia...

Smashed Elvis Presley's record of more than 7 singles in the top 40 UK chart this week, with a grand total of 13. I was listening to the top 40 at work and on the way home, and i gotta admit every time a jacko song came on, i couldn't help but sing along. Fair enough he was mental in his private life but unfortunately alot of childhood stars turn out like that.

Jacko. Insanely Brilliant Musician. Brilliantly Insane person.

Jackson was indeed a highly talented performer, and its not immediately apparent to the average person, just how many great songs he produced until as JonoF says, they are all played one after the other. 13 singles in the top 40 at one time, will that record ever be broken?
JonoF
I very much doubt it. With the evolution of downloading music, especially the illegal market and the decline of CD sales i disbelieve anyone will ever match this. Unless the technology/methods used to verify the sale of music for the charts changes, i think this record will stand indefinitely.
rederic
What about that circus of a memorial service. I've never seen such bad acting or so many people wearing dark glasses indoors. Only in America.
aboutblank1976
I deliberately didnt watch it. I knew it would be a sham so didnt bother.
i am fire,fire,fire,fire
Wow it was dissapointing, i was expecting big stars, and saw only Stevie Wonder.
And it went on wayyy too long.
