Dingbats, Wingdings, Calligraphy and Typography
A Dingbat has a number of meanings such as a typographical symbol (type setting glyph) or ornament and/or someone who's eccentric or empty headed. First appeared somewhere around the early 1900's. In the digital age seemingly under valued and under used together with the once revered and admired art of calligraphy.
